What Makes Us Different?

SAFETY IS PRIORITY #1

We’ve instructed thousands of humans to ride Segways. Some people take a guided tour and some just try a “Segway Experience” which is basically a ride in a controlled area for a designated amount of time. Believe it or not most people can ride a Segway. What determines the level of ability is a couple of factors. First, is your ability/capacity for what we call “doing things.” Don’t worry if you’re clumsy or uncoordinated. We’ve trained many people who claimed to trip over their own feet and they rode a Segway just fine. We’ve also instructed people with disabilities and challenges of all kinds. Some of these include: Autism, Down's Syndrome and even below-the-knee amputees.

Please note: To be very clear, not EVERY human can ride a Segway, but you can see, based on the above, that even people who have actual and physical challenges in his or her daily life, not only learned to ride a Segway but actually LOVED the experience. You should not let your inhibitions dissuade you from trying this very fun experience.

THE KEY TO SAFETY

In one word, training. EGT is different from other Segway companies in many ways, but one main thing that elevates us is that we instruct for EACH individual human being. People come in all shapes, sizes and abilities. What works for one person, does not always the same for another, so that’s the way we train. Are you a little larger in the middle than the shoulders and hip area? Then you’ll ride a Segway differently than someone who is smaller in the middle.

In two words, owner operators. In 2012, a husband and wife team started EGT and still own and operate the business today. If you want to read some of the fine reviews, just check us out on TripAdvisor and Yelp. Search Electric Glide Tours and notice how people have raved about our commitment to safety and fun. We focus on the PERSON first, not the tour. So if you want to bring your fully capable, octogenarian grandmother on a Segway tour, we’ll teach her with the same patience and care that we use with you and your 12-year old. Now that you understand how we operate and instruct, all you have to do is click the appropriate BOOK NOW buttons.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ye. The buttons on this page will take you to our calendar of availability. From there you simply choose your date and time and number of tickets and input your credit card information, e-mail and cell phone number. We will never spam you, but we will e-mail you a receipt and confirmation for your tour. You will also receive all the information you’ll need for the day of your tour including where to meet for the tour, options for parking, what we do about weather, etc. If you choose a date that is more than 2 days in advance, our system will automatically e-mail you a reminder and repeat all necessary information the day before your tour.

Sure. We can input your information so you don't have to key it in online. We'll send you all the confirmation details you'll need as well as a receipt. We won't spam you, but we need your e-mail to send you the details.

As soon as possible because Segway tours sell-out fast. All our tours are booked in advance and Segway companies only have a limited number of tickets available each day simply because we own a finite number of machines. So we recommend you book a tour as far in advance as possible. Start researching Segway tour options before you embark on your trip and we'll get you locked-in right now. As it is possible to book a tour the same day, it is far less likely for groups of more than 2.

Our tours are AMAZING! Riding a Segway is fun because nothing moves like a Segway. We have great reviews and won multiple awards for our tours. After some quick instruction, you'll embark on a fun ride combined with a historical experience you'll never forget. Our tour guides tell stories. It's not a classroom history lesson. By the end of your tour, your guide will seem like an old friend.

We offer a cancellation with refund not less than 48 hours (2 days) prior to your tour date. We understand that emergencies come up, but what we are trying to avoid is a guest just canceling because they are late, or "changed" his or her mind, was possibly hungover, etc. We go to great lengths to provide a fun, safe and responsible touring experience and we expect the same from our guests.

To take a guided tour, you must be at least 12 years of age.

A human being should weigh at least 95 pounds to take a guided tour. If you’re interested in a Segway Experience, we have instructed children weighing as little as 70 pounds. Obviously, we have to cap the weight at a particular number. That number would be a range between 260 and 300 pounds. Why a “range?” There’s a big difference between a 300 pound couch potato and a 300 pound athlete. The restriction is for the safety of the person as well as the machine. The batteries and motors are only designed to handle a limited amount of weight. Think of it like this: You wouldn’t pull a 40ft RV with a Prius. Equally important as the weight of a person is his or her shape. If a human being has a large girth, it is simply not safe to ride a Segway. Here’s our rule: If you cannot fit comfortably in a coach airplane seat, it may not be safe for you to ride a Segway. We feel that most people know his or her limitations and we are happy to have a discreet conversation with you in person or over the phone before you book a ticket with us.

Yes. Every person who tours with us or takes a ride, must complete our safety training. Even if you’ve done Segway tours a dozen times, you have to go through our training. The good news is that it will most likely go much faster if you’re already proficient in riding a Segway. We often tell people that if Dean Kamen (the inventor of the Segway) booked a tour with us, he’d have to take our training as well. 🙂 Our training is what we call “Geo-Specific” and we train not just based on the person and body type, but also the terrain and conditions of the tour or ride you’ve booked. Riding a Segway on cobblestones is far different than riding on a dirt trail or pavement. So you can rest assured that each training session is specifically designed for the ground on which you will be riding. You can also be assured that we take the time with old people, young people, hesitant/nervous people as well as people with particular challenges. We train the PERSON to ride the Segway. That’s why we’re the best.

Yes. There is no eating, drinking, smoking, vaping or use of your cell phone while you stand on the Segway. We provide free of charge high resolution pictures of your experience, so we do not allow photos or videotaping while you stand on the Segway

It’s simply not safe. And yes. We know there are companies that allow you to take pictures, use your phone, drink, smoke/vape and do any number of things. Those companies that allow those things would be found negligent if there was an accident. That’s why we don’t allow these things. You have to have two hands on the Segway while you stand on it. Your tour guide will take a photo of your group at every point of interest so you’ll have a pictorial of your entire tour. Photos are free and remain in the cloud for 30 days. You may download and share your photos accordingly.

Most importantly, wear athletic shoes. We do not allow flip-flops or heels of any kind. Some heels can damage the Segways and you cannot ride with an elevated heel. Your foot must be flat on the surface of the machine. Wear clothing comfortable for the weather the day of your tour. If you tend to be cold, bring a sweater or light jacket. If you don’t need it, we’ll place it in the bag on the handlebar. Small purses are allowed, but you must stow them in the aforementioned handlebar bag. We do NOT allow backpacks, scarves or anything that could change your balance or catch on things while you ride. Do not bring an expensive camera. We do not allow photos to be taken while you stand on the Segway. We are not responsible for valuables you bring with you. Lock them in your car or leave them at home or your hotel

A Segway Experience is not a tour. Think of it like a ride at a fair or carnival (only more safe). Everyone wears a helmet and gets complete safety training and then rides a Segway in a controlled area (usually grassy) for a limited amount of time, typically 10 minutes. If you find us at a local event, and you’ve never tried a Segway, this is a GREAT opportunity to take a test drive. You’ll see why we say, “It’s the most fun you can have, standing up!

Yes. We provide standard bike helmets. Our helmets are cleaned after each guest and rotated so you most likely will not use a helmet used earlier that day. If you wish to bring your own helmet, as long as it is a standard bike helmet, you may do so.

Actually, they're not. Our pricing is $20 less than the National average for a 90-minute or 2-hour guided Segway tour. In the nearly 5 years we've been in business, we have NEVER raised our prices. Our training is second to none and we provide an experience that is not only safe, but fun for (most) ages and ability levels. There are companies that offer specials or drastically discounted ticket prices. We urge you to take great caution and inquire about safety before you book with such companies. We also urge you to check the quality of the equipment you will be riding. One standard Segway is nearly $7,000 USD, so we ask you, “How much do you think is should cost to ride this amazing piece of technology?” Our machines are name-brand/actual Segway PTs. Segways are the best 2-wheeled/self balancing machines you can ride and ours are maintained to the highest standards. Would you expect anything less for the safety of your loved ones? There is an old saying in business: You get what you pay for. Remember this when you hand your hard-earned money to a small business. Any small business, not just a Segway tour company.

Absolutely! We hold every record for the largest and safest group tours in the industry. Prices vary based on what you want to do, how long and where you want to ride, how “exclusive” you want your tour to be and how private. We’ve done private tours for as few as 1 person and up to 35 people. The larger the group, the more time we need to make arrangements, the more machines we need, those machines have to be moved to the tour location, etc. There are only so many Segways available on any given day, so sometimes we book private tours six months in advance. This guarantees both the number of machines and the private nature of your experience. Couple that with our exclusive training process and you’ll have a day you’ll not soon forget!

Segway tour companies have an unwritten rule we follow. That is, to offer tours in our own area and backdrop. One area might be a beachside tour. Another area might be a historic district and another might be trail riding in a park. We respect the geography of other companies and we expect they will respect ours.

You need to call us as soon as possible. The tour guide has to make arrangements and cannot wait for you to arrive. It's not fair to the guests who are also waiting for you. We recommend you map the route from your location to the tour location as early as possible and plan accordingly. If you do not have the ability to map the route, just give us a call and we will tell you how long it will take to get to us. We don't want you to miss out on this amazing experience, so we're here to help!

This is a GREAT question and one we answer all the time. The answer is not brief, so please read carefully. If you're a first-timer, then make sure the company you choose is safe. The fun comes later, but you don't want to risk the safety of your loved ones with a company with shoddy equipment or tour guides who don't train well and with patience or who hurry through the training process. Riding a Segway can be safer than riding a bicycle even if it is your first time, but training is key as well as how the tour guide manages the tour. We believe these are the elements that make our process the best in the industry. Check out what other sites say about their safety record, if they even mention it. You've heard the horror stories, but those incidents could have been avoided with proper training as well as the proper management of the tour. As with anything, accidents can happen, but when you take a tour with us, we'll teach you just what you need to know so that you'll have a great time AND you'll be safe. Of course, if you break rules, do things the tour guide said not to do or act silly while riding, then you increase your chance of having an accident. We promise to ALWAYS do our part to keep you safe. Then you can simply have fun on our tours.

If you already have experience riding a Segway then the answer is simple. Just choose an area you've never been or have never seen by Segway. Our tour guides are not historians, but we have knowledge and historical factoids you won't hear anywhere else, on any tour or any kind. We dispense with information more like a conversation. So go to a place that sounds interesting if you already know how to ride a Segway. By the end of a tour with us, your tour guide will seem like an old friend.
